God of compassion, we know what it is like to be treated with compassion. We know the difference it can make in our lives. Fill us with the spirit of your love that we might commit to extending your compassion to all those we encounter today and every day. May our commitment help to build more compassionate communities and a more caring world. With confidence in you, we pray. Amen.

Lord of all, our lives begin in you. Help us each day to see your presence in ourselves and in each other. Inspire us in all we say and do to affirm the worth and value of those we encounter. May our recognition of your presence in us all help to promote human dignity in ourselves, in our communities, and around the world.

Compassionate God, you have created us to enjoy the beauty of the world you have created and to develop relationships shaped by love and compassion. Yet, sometimes in our attempt to complete the tasks the world considers important, we can forget that you call us to enjoy the life you have given to us. Fill our hearts with a spirit of play that we might imbue our lives with an appreciation of the goodness of your creation and the people and creatures who fill it. We pray in the name of the God who creates and calls us. Amen.

Sustaining Lord, life often presents us with obstacles and problems, large and small. Sometimes we can feel as if life has defeated us. In those moments, Lord, help us to trust in you. Open our lips that we might call out to you from our difficulties. Send your Holy Spirit upon us that we may know you are with us and that our challenges can be transformed through the power of your love. In God’s name, we pray. Amen.

God of justice and peace, sometimes we can surrender to the temptation that history is made only by significant events and people. Sometimes we can think that our contribution makes little difference in a world with such massive challenges. Yet, the wise through the centuries have always understood the importance of simple, everyday acts. Stir within us the power of your wisdom that we might grow in our appreciation of the difference we can make. Give us the courage to act with goodness where we are. We pray in faith. Amen.

God of all, we live in contentious times and sometimes diversity can sound like a bad word to some. Help us in these difficult times, Lord, to see your presence in each other. As we celebrate Multicultural Diversity Day, help us to remember that you are the creator of us all and that we each reflect your goodness in a unique way. May we find blessing both in what we celebrate and in what we promote. Amen.
