Sustaining Lord, life often presents us with obstacles and problems, large and small. Sometimes we can feel as if life has defeated us. In those moments, Lord, help us to trust in you. Open our lips that we might call out to you from our difficulties. Send your Holy Spirit upon us that we may know you are with us and that our challenges can be transformed through the power of your love. In God’s name, we pray. Amen.

God of transformation, it is easy to look around at our world without hope. Wildfires destroy your creation as injustice destroys lives. Yet, we believe you call us to contribute to the transformation of the world. Fill our hearts with your Holy Spirit that we might have the courage to respond faithfully to your call, trusting always in the bright future you promise. We pray this in your name. Amen.

God of new life, the celebration of a New Year is not just the movement of the calendar. It is an opportunity to change, to transform our lives in light of your love and truth. Inspire us to stand in solidarity with our Jewish sisters and brothers as they celebrate the beginning of a new year. May we together, moved by the stirring of your Holy Spirit within us, commit to transformation in our hearts, in our lives, in our families, in our communities, and in our world. Merciful God, work is at the heart of who we are called to be as people. You call each of us to cooperate with you in your work of ongoing creation. Help us to see our work as an ongoing participation in your work of building a better world. Send your blessing this day upon all those who labor and all those suffering economically in the midst of this global pandemic. May your Spirit help us transform the challenges of today into the opportunities that will allow all people to realize their God-given call to labor on behalf of the reign of God. We offer this prayer with profound thanks. Amen.

Merciful God, the world is not always what we want it to be. Others are not always who we want them to be. We are not always who you call us to be. Clarify our vision that we might see the world, others, and ourselves as you see us. Fill our minds with your wisdom and our hearts with your Spirit that we may not be overcome by anger but transform our anger into the pursuit of justice through healing love. Amen.

Faithful and ever-living God, thank you for the many gifts you give us, for the many blessings you bestow upon us. Thank you especially for the gift of your presence in our lives. Fill us with the gift of your Holy Spirit who will inspire us to pray. Grant us the discipline to spend time with you each day and open our hearts that we will be transformed by you through prayer.
