Prayer

God of peace,

Guard our hearts against the grip of anger that separates us from each other and that blocks your peace from flowing among us. Remind us that clinging to resentment gives the enemy a foothold and prevents us from living in the light of your love. Whether it’s at work or home or my society more broadly, challenge us to release our anger and be quick to forgive, especially as we consider the many ways you have forgiven us already. For the sake of deeper healing and wholeness, as your people united, Amen.

Prayer

Joyous God,

We invite your blessing on all those serving at the bedside today. Give them ongoing strength to face the day’s challenges and the wisdom to find light in the darker moments that come. Help us all to hold tight to good humor and joy, so that when the burden feels heavy and the hours long, laughter can still bring moments of grace. Even amid the seriousness of our calling and the painful realities we often face, encourage us to live into our full humanity and welcome the joy that we can. Amen.

Reflection “Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know the whole of it. Behind me and before, you hem me in and rest your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; too lofty for me to attain.” –Psalm 149:4

Prayer

God who hears,

It is a wonder and a comfort that you know us completely—every thought, every sorrow, every silent prayer. Even in our suffering, your intimacy with us can bring soul-filling peace, for nothing about our pain is hidden from you. Today, as we serve those who are hurting in mind, body, and soul, let our compassion and presence be a source of strength for them and a sign of your nearness and love. As you accompany each of us, especially in times of sorrow and pain, we thank you. Amen.

Women’s Equality Day

Women’s Equality Day

Prayer

Good Creator,

Today we gladly celebrate the passage of the nineteenth amendment and the broader recognition of women’s equality in every area of civil society. Bless our celebration and strengthen our voices, that we may always have the courage to speak out for what is right and good and true. Fill our hearts with gratitude for those who came before us, who worked tirelessly to make the world more just, by upholding our dignity and equality as creatures before you. May their example encourage us in our efforts to create a better world. We pray this in your name. Amen.

Prayer

God with us,

As we recommit to your mission today, renew our purpose and give us strength for the work ahead. Open our eyes to recognize the presence of Jesus in every person we encounter, especially those who are vulnerable or otherwise suffering. Remind us, no matter what our role or function, that every act of kindness manifests more of your mercy in the world around us. May our teamwork today reflect your love and affirm the dignity you have bestowed on every person, without condition. Amen.

Prayer

Joy Triumphant,

We often hear reports of “bad weather” coming. Days of challenge and strife that are supposedly headed our way. When such news tempts us to sorrow, urge us instead to welcome your joy. Let your joy be our strength as we face every storm and rejoice yet again. For you did not give us a spirit of timidity. Rather you bring us together in a spirit of power and boldness, of love and devotion to you and the work of your healing. Help us, then, to defy the storms through joy and to look forward to your coming kingdom. As agents of good news and hope, we pray. Amen.

Prayer

God of peace,

Remind us today of whose ministry we are extending as we live out our organizational mission. As Jesus was a peacemaker, so too make us instruments of your peace. In a world divided by fear and pride, unite our hearts by your compassion, so that we may listen with grace and speak with love to all those we long to serve. May our lives reflect the peace of Christ, drawing our patients and families and wider communities into your healing presence. Amen.
