God of great gifts,
Remind us that the talents we carry are gifts meant for this moment, this place, and this season of our lives. May we trust the Spirit’s nudge to use what we have, creativity, compassion, wisdom, and skills, for the good of others, especially our patients, families and communities, right here and now. Let our gifts become channels of healing, hope, and dignity for all we encounter. And may our willingness to serve reveal your love in ways both humble and profound. Through your love, we pray. Amen.

Prayer

God of the poor,

You call us, as a ministry and as people of conscience, to reveal your mercy to a world in need, especially those neighbors of ours who are poor, dying, and underserved. As we minister in your name today, help us to recognize the dignity of all those we encounter, beholding each person we meet as a brother or sister made in your image, and therefore a member of our own family. May our organizational mission and value of dignity continue to guide all our policies, priorities, and partnerships, and may Catholic health care in general continue to advocate effectively for those whose dignity is most at risk of being overlooked in our culture today. Amen.

Prayer

God with us,

Your ministry of healing often comes with responsibilities, pressures, and consequences that weigh on us in deep and profound ways. As we walk the tightrope of life and work, give us the gift of laughter and levity so we can find perspective and balance to sustain us. For those who are especially burdened by their work today, let a good sense of humor bubble among them, relieving their stress and fatigue. Amen.

Prayer

Spirit of unity,

In a culture prone to polarization, you call us to become wiser in the ways we engage and share our ideas, especially when people think so differently about so many issues. Rather than blaring a one-way stream of consciousness through apps and platforms, help all of us choose the harder but higher path of genuine and authentic dialogue, about the things we care deepest about. Induce among us a greater sense of humility, marked by a willingness to listen more than we speak, and a commitment always to put people above issues. In the hope of restored civility, we pray. Amen.

Prayer

Creator Spirit,

As we extend your ministry further into the future, we trust that you will accompany and bless us as we face the unknown. Bless us with courage, tenacity, and an abundance of imagination. Let us not be so tied to what’s worked in the past that we overlook new and innovative opportunities for providing health and wholeness to those that we serve. We ask above all for greater discernment, that we might respond effectively to the signs of our times and the needs of our neighbors. Amen.

Prayer

Loving God,

Open our eyes to the many opportunities you provide us each day, to be genuinely kind. To friends and strangers alike, and especially to those who are vulnerable, marginalized, neglected, or otherwise forgotten, help us reflect your own kindness so that we all might be edified by love put in action. May those most in need find us to be a hospitable and welcoming community, eager to reach out to them with gestures of love and respect. For our own sake and theirs, we pray. Amen.

First Sunday of Lent

First Sunday of Lent

Prayer

Merciful God,

You love us and give yourself to us as a gift even though we are not always who you create and call us to be. Give us the courage during this sacred season of Lent and beyond to acknowledge that we do fail, even fail repeatedly, in our efforts to be who you call us to be. Fill our hearts with your Spirit that we might trust in your mercy and goodness, believing that we can be forgiven, that we can begin again. Through the gift of your mercy, transform our hearts, minds, and lives that we might embody for others the love you so freely share with us. Amen.
