Holy Thursday

Prayer

Loving spirit,

Tonight, your Church will gather to remember your “last supper” with your disciples, during which you stooped low to serve them and washed their feet, taking the role of a household servant. And not only that, for you also taught them (and us!) in the midst of that great act of service, to follow your example and always remember: being the “boss” means being the first servant! Let it be so among us today, that the ministry we share would always reflect your own words and deeds. May we embrace more fully today your vision of leadership, anchored as it is in loving service and genuine humility. For the life of the world, we pray. Amen.

Prayer

God of truth,

The values we hold as a ministry include the value of integrity. We sincerely aspire “to act ethically and to model right relationships in all of our individual and organizational encounters.” In a healthcare environment that is fast-paced, multi-tiered, and increasingly complicated, help us personally and collectively to embody integrity in everything we do and say. Whether anyone is watching or not, may we live out the values we most want to see in the world and that we have espoused as most crucial for our ministry together. We pray this, ultimately for the sake of our patients and the health and well-being of our communities. Amen.

Prayer

Light of the world,

It's true we have many responsibilities that demand our attention. Yet it’s also easy for us to exaggerate our sense of self-importance, such that we become frantic in our days, believing it’s all up to us, to do it all and be everything to everyone, lest the world fall apart. Guide us back to humility. Gently remind us of the simple truth of our calling before you. That you have called us to shine the light that we have into the world, remaining rooted in you and who you made us to be. Help us to do so, faithfully today. For our patients and families, and our wider communities, we pray. Amen.

Prayer

God of all joy,

We are often tempted to worry about things that are more like distractions from a life worth living. Help us keep a good grasp on what matters, by staying close to the things and the people that bring us true joy. May we never take for granted the laughter we share with friends and family during times of connection, and we pray also for more opportunities to experience life-giving joy in the midst of the work we share with colleagues in this ministry. Keep us focused on our mission, on the patients and families and communities we serve, and may we always be joyful in the way that we serve them. Amen.

Prayer

Spirit of love,

Today, as your Church begins its celebration of Holy Week, we pause and consider the courage and stamina of Jesus throughout his journey to the cross. With a hope beyond hope, he obeyed your will and trusted you every step of the way. Give us his stamina and his courage, too, this week and every day, to accompany you as you accompany us, as we each walk our own journeys of faith, hope, and love. Guide us and empower us to follow your will in our lives, for the praise and glory of your name. Amen.

Prayer

Spirit of unity,

Many of us still live under the illusion of independence, as if we weren’t in fact dependent on the help of so many others, relying on resources and support far beyond what we ourselves can secure. Help each one of us remember that we are always embedded in much bigger circles of belonging and fellowship than ourselves alone; and that the kinds of goals worth pursuing are those that promote the common good—through real cooperation, collaboration, and the involvement of a wider community. Amen.

World Water Day

World Water Day

Prayer

Refreshing Spirit,

Across the globe we know so many are suffering the lack of basic necessities, like water, which many of us take for granted. Even in advanced nations we have too much experience with natural disasters and inordinate city planning to assume that safe, potable water will always flow from our faucets. As a ministry called to embody good stewardship of resources, including the Earth, we recognize World Water Day and we commit to continue our founding sisters’ legacies, advocating for access to the most important elements people need to secure their own flourishing. May we continue that good work, as an expression of your healing compassion. Amen.
