Reflection

“‘Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart to judge your people and to distinguish right from wrong. For who is able to govern this vast people of yours?’ The LORD was pleased that Solomon made this request.” –1 Kings 3:8-9

Prayer

God of love,

When divisions and tensions threaten to fracture our sense of community, we beg you to intervene in the hearts of our leaders. Here and around the globe, reveal yourself powerfully to those who govern. For their own good as much as the good of their people, humble them to seek your wisdom and to surround themselves with advisors who are committed to putting the common good and the pursuit of unity above private interests and arrogant shows of pride. Amen.
