Memorial of St. John Henry Newman

Reflection

“[Real love] must depend on practice, and therefore, must begin by exercising itself on our friends around us, otherwise it will have no existence.” –St. John Henry Newman

Prayer

God of kindness,
As we celebrate the memorial of John Henry Newman today teach us that love grows when it is freely given, not held back for ourselves. When we find ourselves longing for encouragement, help us instead to notice the good in others and speak it aloud. Open our eyes to the dignity and gifts present in every person we meet and give us the courage to affirm them with sincerity. May our words of encouragement build up those around us and reflect the generosity of your love. In gratitude, we pray. Amen.
