First Sunday in Lent

First Sunday in Lent

Reflection

“We cried to the LORD, the God of our fathers, and he heard our cry and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression. He brought us out of Egypt with his strong hand and outstretched arm.”
–Deuteronomy 26:7-8

Prayer

God who hears us,

Many of your children will cry out to you today, in pain and suffering, illness or disease, or otherwise amidst challenging conditions and struggling to attain their needs. We know that you have called, equipped, and sent us to serve them in your name, and we commit to do so faithfully. Nevertheless we invite you to empower us more by your very spirit, better to hear them, as you hear them, and to respond to them in effective ways, thereby reflecting your mighty liberation and salvation for us all. Amen.
