Feast of St. Laurence O’Toole (Lorcán Ua Tuathail)
Reflection
“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do. And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection. And let the peace of Christ control your hearts, the peace into which you were also called in one body. And be thankful.” –Colossians 3:12-15
Prayer
Spirit of peace,
We celebrate the Feast of Lorcán Ua Tuathail today, remembering with gladness the life of this devoted servant, church reformer, and humble leader of Irish Catholicism. May we all be so willing to put others first and serve your causes of justice and peace in all our lands. As we extend your mission today, give us a greater sense of appreciation for the breadth and depth of the tradition of compassion that informs who we are as a ministry, and why we are here. Amen.
