Reflection

“Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” –Luke 12:15

Prayer

God of life,

Your warnings against materialism are challenging. So many people’s economic security is being threatened right now, by a host of factors. Meanwhile others are profiting unjustly from these unprecedented circumstances. As we try to work through the widespread changes affecting our communities, we pray for greed to give way to selfless generosity. Let those who have more give to those who have less. And may we all learn the deeper lessons at stake, so often embodied by those who are in fact poorest among us: that life consists in more than the acquisition of possessions and that the greatest of joys come through sharing with all those in need. Amen.

Call to Action

Take time today to reflect on how or whether I am turning away from others to secure my own self-preservation, or if I am becoming a source of support for those who are more in need.
