Reflection

“If in our daily life we can smile, if we can be peaceful and happy, not only we, but everyone will profit from it. This is the most basic kind of peace work.” –Thich Nhat Hanh

Prayer

God of Harmony,

Showing kindness to strangers can be a real act of courage these days. Beyond our own busyness, voices lure us into thinking that acceptance and tolerance are in short supply, and that its better just playing it safe. When we are tempted to think this way, remind us again of your truth. You have already conquered the world with a self-giving love that is its own wellspring of joy. Let such joy abound in our hearts today. And as we look in the faces of those we encounter today, give us the courage to smile and be genuinely happy, for this grace-filled chance to extend your peace. Amen.

Call to Action

Someone will cross my path today who will tempt me to be harsh or uncaring, for reasons unknown. Resist this temptation. Smile instead and try to show true hospitality.
