Third Sunday of Advent

Third Sunday of Advent

Reflection

“Be patient, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You too must be patient.” –James 5:7-8

Prayer

Deliverer,

Our need for control becomes obsessive at times. Yet you taught us to watch and learn from the natural world you have made, that all things are marked with their own sense of time. Teach us to be patient with our greatest desires, trusting that you are in control of the timing and have our best interests in heart. As we continue through advent, longing especially for the coming of your kingdom, stoke our hearts to be hopeful, watchful, and, especially, patient. Amen.

Call to Action

Why is patience so hard for me? Take time today to reflect on my need for control. If a sense of anxiety creeps into my day, be deliberate about practicing mindfulness in that moment. Relax.
