International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples
Reflection
“We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love…then we return home.”
~ Australian Aboriginal Proverb
Prayer
God of all,
Today, as an international community, we celebrate the culture and heritage of the world’s indigenous peoples. Open our eyes and hearts that we might see and promote the value of all cultures and peoples. May we dedicate our efforts to righting the wrongs perpetrated against indigenous peoples at home and abroad. Stir within us the flame of love that we might seek to build a rich and diverse community, respectful of and in solidarity with all peoples, especially the indigenous peoples of the world. We pray in the name of the God who is the God of all. Amen.
Call to Action
Take time today to learn about the culture of an indigenous people. What might indigenous cultures teach me about life and love and respect? How might I promote respect for indigenous peoples?
