Reflection

“Jesus walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. Then he called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him.” ~ Mark 1:19-20

Prayer

Almighty and eternal God,

Today we celebrate the feast of one of your son Jesus’ closest followers. James was willing to leave behind his father and a thriving business to follow in the footsteps of your son, ultimately giving his life in fidelity to the gospel. Fill us with your Holy Spirit that we too might have the courage to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, proclaiming the good news of the gospel by the way we lead our lives. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
