Loving God,

Choosing to love is hard! It shakes our reason and tests our motives and pulls us beyond all comfort. For we find it so easy to love when we get a return; but to love selflessly and purely for the good of the other is truly divine. Inspire us to pursue such a supernatural calling—to go beyond calculation and self-interest in the way we treat others. In all our relationships, at work and at home and all in between, fill our hearts with your living love. For the life of the world, we pray. Amen.

You taught us to welcome children in your name, revealing that these little ones are in fact the greatest in your sight. Open our eyes to see what you see and love what you love in the face of a child. More than this, help us to change and become such as these, learning the greatness of becoming your children ourselves, that we might receive all as gift and learn to give as you give—generously, abundantly, and without conditions. Amen.

You show us that true riches are found not in possessions, but in lives poured out in love and service. As Bishop O’Toole found joy in giving of himself and trusting fully in you, may we too find joy in humble service to our patients, families, and communities. Remind us daily that when we trust in you, we are always given enough to share generously. Through the intercession of Saint O’Toole, strengthen our hearts for this sacred work. Amen.

There is one thing we can never offer too much of: kindness. Every act of kindness is a ripple of your love moving through our world, a love that began with you and continues through us.
Help us never to miss a moment to be kind, trusting that even the smallest gesture may bring great healing. In honor of each act of kindness shared today, we pray. Amen.
