God our strength,

We come to you in prayer today and ask you to be our refuge, provide us refreshment, and renew us for the sake of your mission among us. Faced with all the busyness of our agendas, quick-paced decisions, and just the challenge of being fully in the moment and present to each person we meet, we invite you to accompany us with your presence. May every heart find a way to perform their duties with a prayerful spirit, welcoming your strength. Amen.

On this memorial of 9/11, we recommit to honor those we’ve lost and do what we can to continue healing as a nation from a wound we will never forget. And yet your spirit calls us forward. In response to your call, let our simple acts of service and kindness be like emblems of the hope we hold for tomorrow. May those who are especially grieving today be filled with your peace beyond understanding and may we all be agents of that same peace to a world so troubled by conflict. In our homes, workplaces, communities, and nations, let there be peace. Amen.

We thank you for the gift of life and are grateful to serve it by providing our patients with high-quality care and our communities with tangible projects that build up health and well-being. As we advance that work forward today, keep us ever mindful that attending to spiritual health is just as crucial for effective action in the world, sustaining us through every challenge we face and giving us discernment about our direction and mission. Strengthen our resolve to be just as devoted to the spiritual health of all those we encounter, serving them well in mind, body, and spirit. Amen.

One of the greatest rewards for the work that we share is simply our knowing that, no matter our role or what tasks we’ve been given, we’re a part of something bigger than ourselves and all of it is a part of your own ministry of healing. As we celebrate the Feast of St. Ciarán today and remember his example, encourage us to be as faithful in our own response to your calling. Let your kindness fill us each morning and may our days conclude with stories to tell about how you have prospered the work of our hands.
