Prayer

Loving God,

When you told us to love our enemies, you were challenging us to adopt a far more radical stance than we often appreciate. You call us not simply to think well of enemies, or try to change our feelings about them, but truly to love them and seek their good. Teach us to love in this way, as you have loved us, when we were still enemies with you. In a world that is filled with so much strife and antagonism, help us to embody a love that can triumph over division and renew the bonds of our unity. As one people before you, we pray. Amen.

God of Constant Love,

Your love for us is unchanging and everlasting, even in times of unrest, and for this we are grateful. In our ministry, we strive to live out our Core Culture Behavior of being agile, so that we can best serve our patients and co-workers with open minds and hearts, even amidst the unsettling issues of the day that interfere with the work we are called to do. Guide us in being flexible for the good of all, while maintaining a generous love that is, like yours, unchanging and everlasting. We pray, Amen.

God of Grace,

We come to you in thanksgiving for all that you give to us each day. From the rising of the sun to its setting, and throughout the night, we are blessed with your love and grace. Help us to follow your example by sharing the love we have received with those around us each day. It is an honor and privilege to work with our patients and to walk their journey with them. For this call in life, we say, 'Thank You!' Amen.

As we celebrate the many saints of Ireland, we are reminded of their love and dedication in serving you and the people of that special island. Inspired by their example, may we reach out to those in need, serving the poor, the dying, and the underserved with the compassionate love of your Son, Jesus. May your strength guide us, your wisdom instruct us, and your hand protect us as we serve your people. For this we pray, Amen.

God of Justice,

Today in the United States, all citizens of age are given a chance to vote for the next President. We ask your blessing on this country, and on all countries around the world who choose leaders to guide their country in a way of justice and peace. May we come to be united as a people for the good of all humanity, both here in the United States and around the world. With hope for the future, we pray. Amen.

Compassionate God,

The value of every life is precious in your eyes, from the moment of birth until the last day on this earth, when all will be rejoined with you. Many of our associates work in palliative care and hospice units, accompanying those who are in pain and nearing the end of their earthly journey. We recognize these caregivers this month and pray that the love and compassion they have to offer will comfort our patients and families with peace and dignity. May you bless all those who work in hospice and palliative care, for they too are precious in your eyes, and in ours. For this we pray. Amen.
