Reflection “Who is like the LORD our God, enthroned on high, looking down on heaven and earth? He raises the needy from the dust, lifts the poor from the ash heap.” –Psalm 113:5-7 Prayer God who sees us, You have your eyes trained

Prayer

God who sees us,

You have your eyes trained on those who are most in need of care and concern. Teach us to see with your eyes. In the same way that you see and lift-up the needy, giving those who are poor a firm place to stand, empower us to do the same. May we continue to extend your own advocacy for all those who are underserved and underprivileged. And may the communities we serve see our ministry as a sign of hope and a witness to your incredible love for humanity. Amen.

World Patient Safety Day

World Patient Safety Day

Prayer

God our Protector,

On World Patient Safety Day, we seek to become more conscientious about the unintended harms caused by unsafe medication practices and medication errors. Help us to remain at the forefront of safety and always to value patient safety as an integral dimension of the ministry we perform day in and day out. With thanks for the good work our associates and patient advocates already provide, we pray. Amen.

Prayer

Spirit of Wisdom,

Some wisdom is hard to put into practice. But some is quite easy. Help us each day to focus on the simple things that we know we should do to show respect the people around us. Bring us closer together in unity and peace, that we might continue to build a community with solid foundations, established on civility and decency, and a readiness to lend a hand where we can. When we start to make things complex, bring us back to the basics. Amen.

Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month

Prayer

God over all,

As we begin Hispanic Heritage month today, we recommit our eyes to seeing our diversity as the ground of our unity. We are one human family and belong to each other. Lead us every day further into that truth, that your goodness may be revealed through our engagements and partnerships across and between all our magnificent variety. Your goodness in us is truly more good for being so diverse! Amen.

Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Prayer

Saving Love,

Today, Christians around the world celebrate the significance of the cross upon which Jesus died. A symbol of death has been transformed to a sign of redemptive, salvific love. May we all be inspired to cultivate and practice such a love today. For the sake of others in need, for enemies we do not think deserve it, for those who cannot or will not show a grateful response. Yes for all people today, may we become signs of a love beyond earthly logic. Amen.

Prayer

God with us,

You are always and already closer to us than we are to you. When we struggle to perceive your presence around us, renew our sense of gratitude for the places we inhabit and the world you have given as our home. Convert us by the thought that you have your eyes on us, just as we are, in the places we are, as the people we are. May we thus be inspired to do what we can to improve the places we indwell and bring healing to my neighbors in need. Amen.

Reflection “Prayer is essentially God’s work. Our part is to give time, do our best to keep attention, surrender ourselves as best we can.” –Ruth Burrows Prayer Loving God, Wherever we come from and whatever we are going through,

Prayer

Loving God,

Wherever we come from and whatever we are going through, we are each in need of a prayerful spirit that knows how to pause, breathe, and surrender to a purpose beyond ourselves. Lead us in the way of such prayer. Help us become conscientious students of our own attention, learning to avoid the frenetic chaos that tries to overwhelm, and to yield ourselves instead to the calling you have given. As partners in mission, we pray. Amen.
