Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Prayer

One God,

We have been taught that the life you enjoy as Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer is already a perfect communion of persons, held together in the bond of love. What a gift that you should yet be mindful of us! Surely nothing but love could have motivated you to open the door and welcome us into your fellowship. Nothing but love could prompt a gesture so selfless, that you would create and redeem and sustain others like us, bringing us into the gift of eternal peace. We give thanks on this day and celebrate the good news of friendship with you. Amen.

Prayer

God of justice,

We pray for those who possess a disproportionate measure of power, privilege, and influence over others. Bless them with the virtue of humility, reminding them of our common humanity. Open their hearts that they might be moved by the networks of giving and receiving that sustain the good of, and in, us all. Give to all world leaders an increase of inspiration, conviction, and determination to use their positions of influence to eliminate disparities and to establish justice for those who are poor, vulnerable, and marginalized. Amen.

Prayer

Liberating God,

So often we can long for control in our lives. We can feel ourselves losing an appreciation for living in the moment, embracing the here and now, and being present to the world as it comes. Open us up to new possibilities beyond our imagining, the new directions you promise us, by opening our hearts and minds to your leading. May we learn to live happier, by leaning into the difference between what we can control and what we cannot. Help us let go of what lies beyond us, while trusting you with every precious moment you give us. Moment by moment we pray, Amen.

Prayer

Creator,

We do well to remember that, at the end of the day, we are all just tenants here on this earth—stewards of what ultimately does not belong to us. Whatever our personal state of comfort and well-being, we know that none of our stuff or fluff comes with us when our time on earth is done. In the meantime, then, give us a deep and profound sense of responsibility for the well-being of others, just as we show concern for ourselves. Inspire us to participate directly in establishing a more just and equitable society. In solidarity with all those around us, make us good neighbors, just as you taught us. Amen.

Prayer

Redeemer,

Help us to always remember, that no matter where we come from, no matter the trials we have faced, no matter how many times we all have failed in the past—the future truly is open for each one of us, to make something new of this world we share. With your presence to sustain and transform us, we trust you can make something beautiful out of even the most difficult of moments. For ourselves and all those around us, let it be so! In all our encounters, keep us mindful that the past never has a permanent grip on the future, whether it concerns our own pasts or the histories of those we serve. Amen.

Prayer

Caring Presence,

We thank you today for all those who live out the simple yet profound call of presence, for all those who provide spiritual and clinical care in even the most basic of ways. Each day, in big ways and small, we can help people know they are not alone in their journeys of healing, restoration, and recovery. For the tireless caregivers across every level of our ministry, we pray for their rest and support. Let there be people around them to build them up in their time of need, just as they give to others in so many ways. Amen.

Feast of St. Jarlath

Feast of St. Jarlath

Prayer

Indwelling God,

Today we celebrate St. Jarlath, the Irish saint and scholar, known for his wisdom and learning, devotion to prayer, and generosity towards others. We ask for a share in such gifts, so that we might be agents of the same faith, hope, and love in places of need and for those who are vulnerable. Dwell with us, enlighten our journey, and be our constant accompaniment—as we strive to extend your compassionate ministry, especially for those who are poor, dying, and underserved. Amen.
