Reflection

“But you cannot control everything. All you can do is face the world with quiet grace and hope you make a sliver of difference. You must trust that you being the best possible you matters somehow. That being an attentive and generous friend and citizen will prevent a thread or two of the social fabric from unraveling.” –Brian Doyle

Prayer

God over all,

The news sometimes tempts us to think maybe the social fabric really is unravelling. Beyond the pandemic and its ongoing pressures, we see extreme weather events, posturing nations, disturbing headlines, people struggling to find common ground. Help us remember we are not the world’s saviors, even as we commit to doing small things with great love. May we strive to become the best possible versions of ourselves by exercising the gifts that you give us in the places you put us: to sanctify, heal, serve, and protect. Give us the grace to face the world as it is, and the hope to make a difference. Amen.

Call to Action

It’s good to be informed… But give myself permission today to turn away from the news, especially if doing so means being more present to the neighbor beside me.
