Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist

Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist

Reflection

“And this is the testimony of John. When the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites [to him] to ask him, “Who are you?” he admitted and did not deny it, but admitted, “I am not the Messiah.” ~ John 1:19-20

Prayer

Loving Lord,

John the Baptist understood that his life was not about himself but about the one to whom his life pointed. That is why he answered the question of the priests by affirming that he was not the messiah. The purpose of his life was to point to the messiah. Inspire us through the example of John to respond to your call to lead lives that point to your son Jesus. May our lives reflect his love and contribute to building the kingdom he proclaimed and embodied. We pray in the name of Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
