Feast of St. Matthias, Apostle

Feast of St. Matthias, Apostle

Reflection

“Then they prayed, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen to take the place in this apostolic ministry from which Judas turned away to go to his own place.” Then they gave lots to them, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was counted with the eleven apostles.”
~ Acts of the Apostles 1:24-26

Prayer

God who calls,

Matthias was called to be an apostle not by Jesus but by the early church. The church continues to call women and men to serve the gospel and to lend their efforts to building the reign of God. May our celebration of the Feast of St. Matthias inspire us to recommit ourselves to the noble service of God’s kingdom. May the example of Matthias’ life and martyrdom affirm our willingness to sacrifice and serve for the good of others. We pray with confidence in your love and presence. Amen.

Call to Action

Take time today to reflect on God’s call in my life. How am I responding to God’s call? How might I respond more courageously to God’s call for me?
