Reflection

“Allah says in Quran: O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.”
~ Quran, 2: 183

Prayer

Merciful God,

Today begins the holy month of Ramadan for our Muslim sisters and brothers, a month devoted to prayer, fasting, and the reading of scripture. May we stand in solidarity and faith with them, joining our prayers to theirs as they celebrate this sacred month. May their prayer and fasting draw them closer to Allah and to one another. And may their great faith deepen our own dedication to the Lord and renew our response to our common call to extend love, mercy, and compassion to all we meet. We pray in God’s name. Amen.

Take time this month to learn about the significance of the month of Ramadan for our Muslim sisters and brothers. Identify something from their celebration and ritual practices that I can incorporate into my faith life.
