Fourth Sunday of Advent

Fourth Sunday of Advent

Reflection

“And that is the wonder of all wonders, that God loves the lowly. . . . God is near to lowliness; he loves the lost, the neglected, the unseemly, the excluded, the weak and broken.”
–Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Prayer

God of the Humble,

In this season of advent, our hearts are filled with anticipation for the birth of your son, Jesus. And every year we are baffled again by this wonder of wonders, that the God who spoke the world into being did not despise our lowliness, but freely chose to enter our experience—our poverty, weakness, and brokenness. You have bound yourself to us with a love beyond all telling! For when we did not know you and could never deserve it, you took the most radical step of inclusion and became one with us. Humbled by your love, we say thank you. Amen.

Call to Action

How am I including those who are poor and vulnerable in my holiday plans? Think of at least one thing I can do to serve those on the margins this season.
