Caring for Self through Blessing

The definition of the word blessing is to be in God’s favor and protection. Each person, in and of themselves is in God’s favor and protection, and thus is a blessing to the world. Some form of the word ‘bless’ appears in the Bible over 500 times, signifying the importance of that favor and protection promised by God.  One way to strengthen your relationship with God is to consider all the blessings you experience each day through God’s love and compassion. The care of self, through God’s blessing, empowers you to share your blessings with the world.

·       Begin the day with a blessing by reading the Daily Reflections, which can also be found on the Center for Ministry Formation page on BSMH Central.

·       End the day by focusing on the blessings that you experienced during the day.  Take time to reflect, write your blessings down in a Blessings Journal, and then ponder the benefits of your blessings each day.

·       John O’Donohue was an Irish priest who wrote and spoke about the blessings that we encounter all around each day in our world.  Check out his website to listen to some of his written blessings, and to explore more information about his works.

·       In unison with our Jewish brothers and sisters, take part in Blessing Oneself on Erev Shabbat.
